Locomotive 34046 Braunton
Work on the locomotive has been progressing steadily and the wheels are now all back under the locomotive. The machining and fitting work has continued throughout this period and much of the behind the scenes work scheduled for next winter has been brought forward.The exercise to machine and replace the crank pins was all carried out in house with the horizontal boring machine being used to quarter the crank pin bores in the wheel set and then to check that the angles were correct after they were fitted.
Fitting of cab and other lights, switches and electrical conduits is in progress along with many of the smaller jobs still outstanding on the locomotive. Work on the new tender has moved forward significantly with the fitting of the tank sides planned to take place shortly.
